Emotion
Types Of Emotions
Robert Plutchik defined eight primary emotions: anger, anticipation, joy, acceptance, fear, surprise, sadness, and disgust. These "primary" emotions, much like primary colors and can be blended to create new emotions, or secondary emotions. According to Plutchik's work, the primary emotions are, "Submission, awe, disappointment, remorse, contempt, aggressiveness, optimism, and love."Emotion(1) As all of our characters from Westeros are developing into the individuals we see today, they are challenged emotionally. If it is the Stark children being seperated from their father and showing sadness, or Robb Stark Falling in love, or Sansa Stark fearing for her life in the castle. They are pushed to their limits. What defines them as individuals is their ability to handle these situations. As they all go on their separate paths they are challenged but are still able to control these emotions and push on.
Anger
An emotion that comes out of people very frequently in Game of Thrones is Anger. It is what Fuels Robb Stark to go to war. It is what Daenerys uses to rationalize her cross country campaign to take back Westeros. It is what Joerffery uses to rule. Goleman (1995) stated that "When people get angry, their physiological response is that their blood flows to their hands. This response is the most difficult to control." (Emotion, 2) We see this frequently from The Bear. He is Jeoffery's right hand man who does whatever his master asks. Although he is very loyal he lets his anger get the best of him and will lash out on individuals who probably does not deserve it. This "fight" mentality is also very apparent in The Mother Of Dragons Daenery's. She does not care that she is a women, she will fight anyone who is in her way. Even if that means putting herself in danger. She lets her anger overcome her and she can't help but fight anyone who opposes her.
