Relational Dissolution
Catastrophe theory
According to the Guerrero (2011), "The catastrophe theory suggests that relationships break up in a radically different way; they do not gradually unwind through stages of relational dissolution, but instead via sudden death."(RL1) This theory is seen almost every day in the realm of Westeros. The characters in Game of Thrones do not know how to end things on good terms, they only know how to make things as crazy as possible. If it is Ned Stark being killed, or Sansa being replaced for a prettier version. Game of Thrones rewrites the book on catastrophic break-ups.
Results of Relationships Ending
"The loss of a relationship is very likely to produce intense feelings of lonelieness. Not only have the partners lost one of the most important people in their lives; they have lost the person they would normally have turned to for comfort following such a loss. Cohabitors, regardless of their sexual orientation, are particularly likely to experience financial difficulties as they move out of each other's homes and lives. Like emotional dependency, financial dependency often traps people in unhealthy relationships."Guerrero, (2011)(RD2) In the above clip, Jon Snow has to call it off with Ygritte. This sparks some bad feelings and leads to Ygritte trying to kill Jon. This is an extreme example, but an example regardless. Ygritte did what most people probably feel when they have a relationship end.
