Relationship Building
Every week millions of people tune in to see if Sansa will gain the confidence to leave Joeffery. He treats her terribly and she is only hurting herself. What people do not understand that for Sansa, this relationship is involuntary. According to Guerrero(2011) "Children cannot choose their family; rather. They are born or adopted into relationships with parents, grandparents, and other relationships."(RB1) Although Sansa is not born into this, she is by family order, obligated to marry into this family. While the relationship started off all sunshine and daisies, soon many depenetrations came to light and drove them to a state of hatred for one another. Jeoffery constantly puts her down and makes her feel unsatisfactory, and as hard as this is for her she cannot leave him because of its involuntary nature. This creates a cycle of constantly tearing her down, and her just returning to his side. People do not understand the true nature of the relationship.
Self Presentational Goals
According to Canary and Cody's research on Self presentational Goals, "people resemble actors on a stage, presenting themselves in the most favorable light."(RB2) Although Sansa hates her husband Jeoffery she puts on a face in front of him, she says "I love you" and "you are my beloved husband"(14) she wants nothing more then to be rid of him forever. Even when she is talking about her husband to other people she still talks highly of him and makes sure that nobody knows the truth. She has the end goal of being thought of in a good light, she wants all her family and friends to think she is a loving wife.
